Memento Mori

Photographs and gadgets,
letters and songs
are the keys
opening the capsule of memories,
and reminding me
that I must eventually die.

Each
a memento mori1
that transports me--
back in time--
back across the dusty decades
to relatives and friends
whose headstones are standing
in cemeteries
across the Earth.
