A Christmas in July Poetry Contest Entry
Christmas in this blazing heat,
To me that sounds about right.
Same beast that took chunks of meat,
Came to take another bite.

Just before our winter yule,
Took away from me my job.
Now I feel like such a fool,
Because once again they rob.

The sappy smell of fir trees,
Or warm mouth-watering pie.
Doesn’t matter if you freeze,
Or if in the sun you fry.

Now the smells are all too hot;
The stench of melting asphalt.
I’m garbage left out to rot,
I must ponder who’s at fault.

My gift? A long road and gas,
Christmastime can kiss my ass...
