An experience in love ending in being alone/The Daily Poem Contest

She broke my heart,
I twist in pain.
Within this poem,
I will explain.

Her shape divine,
The smile so bright.
What lay below,
Shocked my night.

I presented my diamond,
And asked for her hand.
She said my stone,
While pretty was not grand.

Her words shocking,
Coming from that smiling mouth,
I knew my proposal,
Was heading south.

How could I be so wrong,
This entire past year?
I thought it was love,
But now it’s so clear.

I left her home,
Drained of meaning or existence.
She kept my diamond,
The experience was my deliverance.

Now alone and sad,
The experience behind me.
One is not a lonely number,
But my spirit is not happy.
