Winner of Writer's Cramp 26Sep20
Exploring footpaths in the night,
Unearthly shadows by moonlight,
Neurotic mental states give fright,
Fanciful notions flare.

Peculiar every little sound,
A noise above has me spellbound,
Ascending and descending round,
A bat flies in the air.

Tenaciously I'd watched the sky,
But never once a bat to spy,
Now gleefully I watch one fly,
Caught up in moonlight's glare.

Descriptions spoken, stories heard,
I couldn't say a single word,
Because a bat flies like a bird,
As if it had no care.

They say there's nothing new to see,
Angelic visions disagree,
That bat astounds and dazzles me,
Creation's millionaire.
