Finding the Right Words

Tears on a chilly day
An ache beyond the pain
With nothing left to say,
Against the mark of Cain

Loss even from afar,
Chilling the holiday,
The wrong words only mar
What tears alone can say
.
Children held extra tight
In a parent’s embrace,
Saying just their goodnight,
In one day’s rushing pace.

Remember a child’s smile
Not just the loss and pain
Remember a child’s smile
Against the mark of Cain.
