Christmas morning,
before loved ones wake,
before presents and laughter,
even before coffee,
In the darkness before dawn,
the fireplace seems
unable to hold
the glow of the coals.
Red-orange light spilling
across the hearth,
and the gifts, onto the
unlighted Christmas tree.
Tinsel catching
the radiance,
twirling and twinkling
in anticipation.
The
cat stirs,
stretches,
looks about
curiously. Some-
thing is different this
morning, something new,
something wonderful. This
quiet moment, this small quivering
of happiness and hope, this small bit
of peace on earth,
May it be yours
this day,
this Christmas.
