Do you remember the day in the peach orchard?
Do you remember the day?
When you crouched among the branches
in my father’s orchard
like a nymph leaves clinging to your hair
Do you remember the day?
when the dogs licked sweet peach juice from your face
and you laughed
the sound ringing
through the thick summer air
heavily perfumed with peaches
that had become sweet with rot
