if you love something, set it free.
is it love to hold onto something no one remembers?
or is it love to set it free?

is it love to hold onto your past?
or is it love to let bygones be bygones?

the past is the past,
it’s far behind me now;
the things i hold with me
aren’t things i care about now

but something in me
keeps me holding on
as though i can somehow
raise the dead from its grave.

is it love to keep a dying friend alive?
or is it love to let it die in peace?

is it love to cling to it?
or is it love to say goodbye?
