Poetry Topic of the Month Contest Entry January 2021 - 2nd Place
The time has come to celebrate
Anticipation fills the heart
Everyone waiting for the date

It all starts with the turkey
Giblet stuffing, sweet potatoes,
Salads of green and cranberry,
Green bean casserole, and yams

All with pies of pumpkin and apple

The feasting has just begun
Two months of eating and grazing
Lunches and dinners, what fun

Cookies smothered in colored icing
Multiple flavors of fudge
Candy canes a must to bring
And don't forget the tarts and puddings

All with hot cocoa by the fire

Celebrations have come to a close
The price to be paid becoming clear
It's impossible to fit in one's clothes

The inches and pounds must be shed
With lettuce, carrots, and spinach
No flavor, no fun to be had
Ditch the calories, lose the weight

Must lose enough to do it again!
