My thoughts on the true love story of author, C.S.Lewis. Shadows and Light Poetry Contest
'Jack had a feeling she had heard them;
she was never far away from him now.'

Strange, that…
so far from physical touch or reach, and yet…
and yet, her presence in his heart
was a constant.
It sat tight alongside the hole
that no other could fill.
The same hole that could,
however,
fill with despair
now she was no longer there.

Four precious years,
when the plan had been absolute.
Growing old together would be their path.
His grief threatened to swamp him
more than once.

But just sometimes,
some sweet and precious, oh-so-fleeting sometimes,
a warmth filled his ears,
moisture flooded his eyes,
so he must close them to capture her essence.

And the dreams flowed as freely as his words,
and he remembered she lived forever
in her gift of releasing the torrent
of love
and of feelings
he'd dammed up for so very, very long.
