Juuso Valimaki opened the scoring for Calgary with a goal at 4:37 of the first period.
Zach Hyman tied the game at six minutes later.
Calgary went ahead 2-1 just 34 seconds into the second period with a goal by Elias Lindholm.
Alex Kerfoot tied the game at 6:17 of the third period.
36 seconds into overtime, Gaudreau scored.
Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe said at last night's postgame press conference that his team could've played better.
"I thought we were real sloppy with the puck," said Keefe.
Gaudreau and Lindholm had two points.
Toronto's Captain, John Tavares had two assists.
Toronto hosts Winnipeg tomorrow night.
