In the middle of the first period, Toronto's Captain, John Tavares, was accidentally hit in the head by Montreal's Corey Perry's knee and was taken off on a stretcher.
"It is a big loss for us," said Leaf's head coach, Sheldon Keefe about Tavares after his team lost 2-1 last night.
Josh Anderson opened the scoring for Montreal at 12:08 of the first period.
William Nylander tied the game at 4:28 of the second period.
Paul Byron scored the winning goal short-handed at 12:44 of the third period.
Montreal's goalie, Carey Price stopped 36 shots last night.
Toronto's goalie, Jack Campbell stopped 30 shots.
Game Two is tomorrow night.
