|It was a real see-saw battle, but the Tampa Bay Rays managed to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 14-8 in extra innings, sweeping the four game series.
It was also Tampa's 11th straight win.
Up 1-0 at the top of the first inning, Joey Wendle hit a grand slam to put Tampa ahead 5-0.
Toronto rallied back, though.
In the bottom of the second, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a solo home run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Vladmir Guerrero Jr. hit a solo home run.
Then, Teoscar Hernandez hits a solo home run.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Guerrero Jr. tied the game 5-5 with a two run homer.
There was no more scoring until the top of the 10th inning when Austin Meadows drove in Brett Phillips with a double,
Later in the inning, Manuel Margot drove in Randy Arozarena with a single to put Tampa ahead 7-5.
Toronto rallied back again in the bottom of the 10th when Marcus Semien hit a two run homer.
At the postgame press conference, Jay's manager, Charlie Montoyo said he was proud that his team didn't give up.
At the top of the 11th inning, Tampa's offence exploded, scoring seven runs.
Hernandez scored on a routine ground out in the bottom of the 11th, but that's all.
Wendle went three for four and had four RBIs.
Ray's starting pitcher, Ryan Yarbrough went six innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, no walks, and struck out four batters.
Guerrero Jr. went two for five and had three RBIs.
Jay's starting pitcher, Ross Stripling went seven innings, allowing two hits, no earned runs, two walks, and struck out seven batters.
The Jays kick off a three game series against the red hot Yankees in New York tonight.
