17 line free verse co-win entry into the Writer's Cramp contest. Prompt: forgotten medals
They wear their forgotten medals
In the weary lines of their faces
Medical warriors called hero's by some
Dethroned by deniers there is a war
World wide in disarray, their weapons
Barbed words spreading the very enemy
The death toll rises amid political debate
Masked in phrases thrown left and right
while these warriors battle alone
The enemy, great leveler, cares not
Dying in those it invades and kills
As it mutates into a more fearsome foe
Too few healers burdened with too much
Feel the weight of their forgotten medals
Worn in the weary lines of their faces
In the sweat of the daily deeds that are done
