The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Chicago White Sox 2-1 in a real pitcher's duel last night.

Breyvic Valera scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the game for Toronto.

"It was a great win for us," said Jay's manager, Charlie Montoyo at the postgame press conference.

Both starting pitchers were solid.

Toronto's Alek Monoah pitched six innings, allowing just an earned run, and struck out five batters.

Chicago's Lance Lynn pitched seven innings, allowing an earned run.

Jay's reliever, Jordan Romano recorded his 12th save of the season.

Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr hit a RBI single.

Chicago's Andrew Vaughn also hit a RBI single.

Toronto's catcher, Reese McGuire went two for three at the plate.

Chicago's Yoan Moncada went two for four at the plate last night.

The White Sox left eight runners on base in last night's game.

Game Two is tonight.
