A musing on grief and finding joy in the memories
An empty chair which belonged to him
Looks lonely and bereft
So does my heart, full to the brim
Of sorrow, the love you left

It’s little things that I forget
The setting at the table
The thought you may return to sit
and eat, it’s just a hopeful fable

I hear your laughter in the eaves
I hear you pottering
I see the changing autumn leaves
Now golden, the colours sing

Not yet a year since you passed on
To peace, calm and respite
A place where suffering is gone
No longer you must fight

You’re not forgotten here with us
Tales we love to tell
And while this will not be the end
For now, it is farewell
