A poem for my X-Wife.
If…
You want to prove it is true,
When you say, “I love you.”
Listen to the words I say.

If…
You wonder why I don’t hear
When you talk to me,
My ears are deaf to your voice.

If…
You wonder why I stare
Through you instead of upon
My vision no longer sees you.

If…
You wonder why you feel
No warmth when you hug me,
I generate no warmth for you.

If…
You wonder why I no longer
Linger in the smell of your hair,
My nose no longer knows your scent.

If…
You wonder why you can’t feel
My breath upon your skin,
I no longer breathe for you.

If…
You wonder why I don’t touch
My bare flesh to yours,
My fingertips no longer feel you.

If…
You wonder where my heart beats
When you lay your head upon my chest,
My heart no longer beats for you.

If…
As you claim
You want to see me live again
Listen to the words I say.

If…
You want to know what to do
Place your gaze on a mirror,
As you pull a razor out.

If…
You want to see me smile,
Cut deep and watch your eyes
Fade as you bleed out.

If…
You want to show your love,
Smile big
As your life ends.

If…
My Heart, My Touch, My Breath, My Smell,
My Warmth, My Vision, My Hearing, mean
All that you claim

If…
You want to prove it is true,
When you say, “I love you.”
Then listen to the words I say.
