an old monk achieves nirvana when the grim reaper visits him.

A wizened old monk
Was sitting in the mountain temple
Far away from the world.

Contemplating life
Reading an ancient book
By candlelight
Still seeking nirvana.

A silver bell
Rang in the temple compound.

The monk went outside
To see who it could be
They got so few visitors.

He saw that
it was the grim reaper
Coming for him.

The monk paused
Greeting him,

Telling him
Can we wait until I finish
My daily meditation?

The grim reaper smiled,
Said “sure”
And watched the monk
Fall deep into mediation.

The grim reaper
Decided to let him be
For another year.

As the Grim began
departing the temple
The monk woke up
Achieving nirvana.

Rang the silver bell,
He rushed off to join
The grim reaper.
