when the birds start chirping, I feel more alive
It's late winter, deep in the night
suddenly I hear songbirds, chirping with delight
I'd forgotten how nice it is
and how much I did miss
having them around
because snow was on the ground
(the snowbirds didn't make a sound)

Somehow, it gives me hope
and it does help me cope
With the troubles of the world
to hear their songs unfurled

An innocent beauty that calms the air
singing their tunes without a care
As if to say, "Listen carefully!"
"We can all truly be free
if we just let each other be."

That's how I feel when I hear their song
and I know that I am not wrong
A simple lesson much needed
that shouldn't go unheeded.
