I wrote this in 4th grade, about an adventure I had while tubing at Table Rock Lake.
ZIIIP! Our tube skids across the water. This is it. The thought registers in my mind again. This is it. There's no turning back now. It's happening.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Sorry, let's zoom back.

Breanna and I are about to make a world record for tubing. We are tubing at Table Rock Lake. I am not nervous. I am not turning back. I’m confident. I’m awesome.

“Once your mom and Tawny are done tubing, it’ll be your turn,” Frank, our boat driver, tells us. My mom fell off twice, and Tawny only fell off one time.

It was our turn.

I tumbled on the wobbly, green tube. I could smell the foul gas from the boat. I could see the ripples forming in the water below me. Once I found my balance, I laid flat out onto the tube, and held firmly onto the handles.

“Let's keep saying ‘I am not a chicken nugget.’ Okay?” Breanna said. I had to admit, it was a magnificent idea!

“Yeah, let's do it!” Frank turned on the engine. VROOM, the noisy engine went. We went faster, and faster, and faster, and faster, until we were bouncing across the water. I held on for dear life.

Breanna shouts above the wind roaring in our ears, “WE ARE NOT CHICKEN NUGGETS!” Bounce, bounce, BOUNCE! We nearly fell off as I tumbled, inch by inch. Once I got a good grip of the handles, I pulled myself back up.

“When we are done, if we survive, we will BBQ chicken!” I shouted.

“Yeah! WOOOO-HOOOOO!” Breanna screamed back at me. We went over an enormous current and almost tipped over the tube. WOOOOSH! went the wind. It was whipping and slapping across my face.

Finally, Frank slowed down the boat. It had been - or at least felt like - ten minutes.

“Good job Emma and Breanna!”

“We are so proud of you guys!”

I can’t believe it! We are BBQ chicken. We survived.

We are the boss.
