Early morning

Just dawn. Sun
isn't officially up yet--
hardly matters
as it is hiding
behind a densely clouded
sky. Back yard pines
silhouetted in not green
but darkened grey
against pale grey clouds.
Colorless. Stark.
Beautiful.
It is the knowing that
the colors are there
even if I can't see them
just now.

Just like
sometimes
it is the knowing
when you see people
and know what you are seeing
isn't all of them.
Given the right conditions,
people just
silhouetted against
neighborhood
backgrounds at dawn.
Smiles, flashes of white,
in a greyed-out world
just waiting.
