Hold

Being affected

I hold my breath while you breathe
to make room, to keep watch
If only I could hold you
in the palms of my hands, I
would cup them so carefully, make
a warm safe space for you to live
          and live well
But
you are bigger than me
          this is impossible
                    I hold my breath so it won't
                    be over yet
