Mountain High

Eight line poem

There ain’t no mountain higher than this,
Certainly not here on earth.
16 miles high? That’s surely a guess,
And how are they sure of its girth?

The red planet has claimed this colossal tor,
Yet who among us can truly be sure
That it's fact? And who first gave it its name—
Olympus Mons, a peak of fame?

The tallest known mountain in our solar system, Olympus Mons, is found on Mars. Its base is the size of Arizona, and the highest point is over 16 miles tall. (Earth’s Everest is 5.5 miles above sea level.)
