Tired teacher |
Matilda had gone through a divorce, raised six children, remarried, and found herself missing her four grandchildren. Older than most of the preschool teachers in the center where she teaches two through five-year-old children. She is also going to college. She puts her hand on the key to turn off the car, but she heard the lyrics “I know your tired, I can see it in your eyes.” It was her favorite song. It seemed to play on her way home from a hard day. While listening to the words she reflects on all the runny noses, children being sent home with fevers, and the event that caused the police to be called into the parking lot. “What a day?” she thought as the song finishes and she turns off the radio. She opens the back door and lifts out her large pink roller bag. Her husband meets her and takes the bag. She kissed him and replies, “Thank you it has been a hard day. I am bone tired.” He takes it into the bag to her craft room/study. She told him about the parents who were fighting in the parking lot. The father asks the mother to carry their three-year-old daughter into the classroom. Then when returning to the car, the two fight over dad asking for a share of her tax refund. He takes her purse after pushing her to the ground. She hits the door glass, cutting her hand, and the cops showing up. After creating this week’s lesson plan, submitting an assignment for her B.S. Degree, and lying down to sleep, she hopes that situation a school does not become a violent scene posted on the nightly news. 283 words |
