...in the glow of sunset, our shadows entwined across the lawn, reaching past summer... |
| Honorable mention at a small town art show We were pals off on a journey to cross the wide prairie those green lawns of summer, the suburban school yard of summer, into the fields beyond. But the grass was wet with puddles, dotted with gulls we chased around, gull-wings flapping, our wings flapping; whirling until dizzy we fell down and rolled in mud, groping in mud our hands going all the wrong places till yours slapped mine away. Then you took a photo of us in the glow of sunset, our shadows entwined across the lawn, reaching past summer, over cornfields, cut hay. Then one strained good-bye. One long forever. Now decades later In this small town art show, black and white, enlarged and framed, I see our shadows reaching towards eternity. And there’s your signature and a bright red ribbon! No mention of me. © Kåre Enga 2011-10-18 [168.173] 27 lines Original in "Knapweed. 2" |
