My version of the I am from poem |
I am From I am from the pit. I am from the middle of the US where cows and wheat cover our land. From the sunflowers, the bright yellows aimed at the sun. I am from the dysfunction, where normal is not a term we know. From the rib of the partner put on this Earth to appease me. I am from the selfish and entitled, lining up to get their participation trophy. From the I’ll give you something to cry about, eat everything on your plate. I am from broken Christianity, and total blind faith I am from KS, German Catholic, close-minded, just let me have my way. From the farm, from the tiny town, from the black and white, the dime story candy. I am from the general store days, where change could actually buy something From the get home when the lights come on, ride your bike all over town. I am from the corded home phone, the hamburger and tuna helper From the f@#$ around and find out, not scared to use violence I am from the homegrown, I am from the country bred From the Skol ring in the back pocket, the cowboy boots worn thin I am from kool-aid and Everclear, the yes is all a guy wanted to hear From smoking before high school to never knowing when enough is enough |
