The battle of Gonzalez was the first battle in the Texian war of independence. The battle took place because the Mexicans requested that a cannon be given to them because they thought it unwise as many states were rebelling due to the centralized goverment under Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The Texians flew a flag that said "Come and take it!" Casualties were minimal and acceptable given it was 100 v. 150. The Mexicans lost one man with two inured. The only Texian casualtie was a bloody nose due to being thrown off a horse. The whereabouts of the original cannon are unknown, but a replica is on display in Austin.
