Free Style Poem for A Moment of Truth

Living life is full of challenges: commitment, love,
trust, loss, maturity, independence, grief, growth:

We graduate from school, think we know life
But we start to see there is lots of strife
We take a job or continue our education
And find that it is all about life choices.

We fall in love and we may marry
And at times it can be damn right scary
A commitment that requires sacrifices
It is no longer about me; it is about us.

We celebrate the children that come along
Then we realize our growth has not been as strong
A loss of independence; love of another, not self
Maturity takes a step forward; in for the long haul.

Friendships, careers, choices galore
Routines, conflict, trust is tested; life is a chore
Best friend dies: grief, separation, major loss
We analyze it all; truth is, this is living life.

Years go by; life has not been so bad
Many good things have happened, some sad
Our path taken is a journey, a journey of choices
And we ask ourselves, could I have lived it better?
