Getting through Friday

Turning back, to make sure the door lock had locked, I saw an envelope stuck between some of my May apple plants in the front garden. Going out that way was unusual for me, but my car was in the shop, and Mary was picking me up for work.

I quickly went down the steps, and into the garden, and grabbed the envelope just as Mary drove in. Waving to her in case she didn’t see me, I quickly stuffed the letter in my pocket, and hurried to the car.

Mary is a talker, she started talking before I even got to the car, so as we pulled out and headed off to work, I completely forgot about the envelope.

Getting out early to go pick up my car, I rented a cab from the cab spot near our building’s front door. As I sat down in the back, the envelope popped out of my pocket! Chuckling a bit about my terrible memory, I opened it.

“Congratulations!” it started, “You are the lucky winner of a round-trip vacation to Hawaii!” I screamed! The fact that I didn’t enter any contests skipping by my excitement!

Also, I scared the crap out of the cab driver who just missed running into another car, and immediately got pulled over by the police. Not my best day. I did make it to the car shop just before it closed.

Finally, in my car, ready to go, I remembered the letter. Sitting there, rereading the first sentence, still excited! I got to the rest of the sentences which started with … “If you are chosen” …and continued with I had to buy their product to get the entry… and their product was hot mustard sauce…

Ah well, my car is fixed, and tomorrow is Saturday.
