A personal thank you to those who helped me get my new computer up and working!

HATS OFF TO MY SUPPORT SYSTEM!

Well, I need to slow down and give thanks this morning, so here it goes: Thank you to the following family, friends, and others who stepped up to help me get another working computer.

Some years ago, I found myself in the same situation—my computer crashed in the middle of a job I was working on, and I was devastated because I lost all of my work. Leslie Fisher stepped in without hesitation and had a computer sent to me immediately, and I still can't thank her enough.

On Tuesday, that excellent computer did precisely the same thing to me. It crashed in the middle of a project. I took it everywhere to get it fixed, never wanting to part with it. In the end, it was cheaper to buy another one than to fix mine. Thank you again, Lelie Fisher, for your kindness and generosity.

In walks a new band of angels to get me back online. Thank you to my grandson Lee-Lee for trying to fix my all-in-one computer. Thank you, grandson David Miles, for also trying to fix it and diagnosing that it was the screen and that it would cost more to fix it than to buy one.

Thank you, Big Lee, for searching the internet to find the computer I described and wanted, if I had to purchase a computer. You found it, and I got it. Thank you, Patrucua Febb, for being my transportation to Micro Center in Rockville, not once but twice during this process.

Many of us know the frustration of being without a computer and deadlines, and some of us know what it is like to wait to get the new computer hooked up and functioning. Well, that was me the past four (4) days. I got the new computer, but I couldn't see well enough to hook it up, so it just sat in the box.

In walks Charles Moody Evans, who was curious as to why I had not been on my computer lately. Once he realized my computer had gone bye-bye, he said, "Is that the only reason you are not on the computer?" I can hook up your new one. You know that is what I have my degree in -- computers." Another WOW! I did know that, but I had forgotten. So, he got busy, and got my computer hooked up with all of its component parts (internet, printer, camera, speakers, external hard drives, etc.

Then, I realized that the monitor Lee-Lee had given me was no longer waiting for me to hook it up. So in step, Nneka Barnes with a monitor. WOW!, Thank you, Nneka Barnes, for the monitor. Nneka's monitor required an adapter to work with the new computer. No adapter. Then miraculously, Lee-Lee's monitor showed back up. YES!

Who knew that his monitor would also not work with the new computer? The monitor required an HDMI cord, of which I had three, but the computer could only take a 4 K display cord. WHAT?

It was available at Amazon but would not arrive until next Tuesday. Staples didn't have it. As luck would have it, Target had it, but they only had one! You could pick it up in the store for $30 or order it online for $9.99. Charles ordered it online. We went to Target to pick it up. After a two-hour wait, we got the adapter. Hookup complete.

Then the madness set in: uploads, downloads, passwords, configuring the computer, setting up sites, and the list went on and on. Thanks to Charles Moody Evans' hard work, I have a working computer today.

No, it is not quite functioning the way I want it, especially the settings for font and page sizes, but it is functioning efficiently enough for me to get online. Then, there was another problem: some ad blockers blocked everything on Facebook. Thanks to Marsha Thomas, that problem was resolved, and now I can write and post on Facebook.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in helping me get my computer up and running. Each of you made a difference in my technological journey, and I appreciate it.

THANK YOU!
