A poem written in despair

I know you can’t see me

although I don’t know why

I know you can’t hear me

no matter how hard I cry

I weep in the night but

I get up each day

I wonder what more

what else I should pray

I don’t understand it

I scream so loud

How can you not hear me

or see me,

what makes you so god-damn proud?

I go to the mirror

to rant and to rage

but there’s nothing to see

my image is gone

I can’t see … me

I open my mouth

to scream in despair

But I can’t hear a thing

The voice I thought was in me

is nothing but air

There’s nothing to see

There’s nothing to hear

turns out, I have nothing to offer

… why am I here?
