Annabelle confronts Leon. 300 words |
How I Did It “I figured it out,” Annabelle said to her husband Leon. “What have you figured out, my love?” “Where you’ve been going when you say you’re visiting your dear mother,” his wife said with heavy sarcasm. “What do you mean?” Leon asked with a frightened look. “I called your mother yesterday. She says she hasn’t seen you since Christmas.” “She’s losing it, the old dear.” “Not according to her doctor, who claims she’s sharp as a new tack.” “I’ve seen her around town, with her two kids that look a lot like you.” “Let me explain!” Annabelle stood in front of him, hands on hips and an empty smile on her face. He stared at her. “When we couldn’t have kids, you went into a depression...” “That was ten years ago, are you telling me your affair has been going on at least that long?” Leon nodded mutely. “I could have taken a divorce a lot easier than to find out about her. With the kids I longed for.” “I love you, Annabelle. I couldn’t leave you!” “But you could betray me with another woman?” “Where did you get that gun?” “Actually, I bought it from your lover.” Annabelle cocked the hammer. “Goodbye Leone,” she whispered as she pulled the trigger. It took her some time to bundle up his body in the hideous throw rug he’d come home with one day. She tied it with twine and rolled the thing to the garage. Loading him into his own SUV, she drove to the plaza where his lover worked. Finding her minivan, Annabelle popped the back lock and loaded the carpet in the back. Closing it up again, she replaced the lock mechanism, so it didn’t look jimmied. Abandoning Leon’s car in the lot, she walked home. |
