Had to use these 8 words: recall, mouth, water, abundant, worship, medicine, sordid, urge.

I don’t recall much now.
Like water, the memories flow away from me
to rest elsewhere, on other shores
far from me
and the sordid details of our lives drift
beyond my reach.
I no longer mind.
The urge to keep you near me,
once so abundant, so pressing,
yields to a new desire:
the need to forget.
It is the medicine that cures
the want to worship and celebrate
a love that lived only in my mind, if not yours.
It is a portal, an open mouth, through which I make my way,
looking for release on the other side.
