Saturday My watch was broken. I should have taken it off before I started painting but I really wanted to get started and I needed to pick up Andy at noon. Once I got him, I’d drop him at my mother’s house and come finish before the sun went down. Ted would be so surprised! Ted had planned to paint the shed for weeks now, every weekend was cancelled for something more important. Work, Andy falling off his bike and twisting his ankle, and this business trip unexpectedly running into the weekend. I decided to do the painting as a surprise. The watch crystal was broken, so I brought out our alarm clock, so I wouldn’t be late picking Andy up. I could get a lot done before I had to go get him. So optimistic… First, the watch, of course. Then the alarm clock, I forgot to actually set the alarm so consequently it didn’t go off at eleven fifty. My mother called, but now I was late, and so she would be late. I had to rush over to the park with Andy, where the bake sale was. Twice as far as her house, so I didn’t change clothes… and now my car seat has white patches of paint on it. I got home just in time for a sudden sprinkle. Five minutes! I heard it didn’t bother the bake sale at all, but it did wet down the shed pretty well. I waited all afternoon for it to dry, and then I finally got the last piece painted! Ted called, he’d be home tomorrow! And then he added, “And, I’ve decided not to paint the shed white! I think I’d like it more if I paint it green… I think the whole neighborhood heard me scream… |
