You Gotta Be Kidding

Sarah receives a disturbing cellphone call from George.

Binga-Binga-Bing-Oooga!

"Hello, George, what do you need?"

"Sarah, this is important! I need you to go out into the garage for a minute."

"George! It's gotta be over a hundred degrees out there, now."

"I know it's hot today, but I left the garage door up several inches so it'll be cooler."

"Oh, George. What? Only ninety-nine degrees? What's so important that I go into the garage right now?"

“Well, I am testing out my experimental electric car. I left about eight minutes ago. I got it up over eighty miles an hour! But now there’s a problem.”

“George! You got a ticket?”

“No, Sarah, I stayed on the frontage road, only the sheriff patrols that, and only at night.”

“OH, MY GOSH, YOU’VE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT?”

“No, no, no! Sarah, you always expect the worst.”

“Well, of course I do! I’ve been married to you almost thirty years.”

“Hey, come on, Sarah, I don’t always get into trouble!”

“Okay, my love, (sigh), what’s wrong?

“Just go out into the garage, over by the table saw. You’ll see the electrical outlet from where I unplugged the saw.”

“And?”

“Well, I was moving so fast, I didn’t keep track of the distance. Now I’m pushing the car back about twenty yards, where I can turn it around.”

“George, you gotta be kidding? You ran out of cord, didn’t you?”

“I screwed up! I’m sorry, Sarah.”

“George, I ought to make you push that stupid car all the way back home! You wouldn’t listen when I suggested battery packs would be the way to go. Half a mile of extension cords is not only stupid, it’s dangerous!”

“Sarah, just go plug the cord back in. When I get back, I’ll order the batteries... I promise!”
