After a crazy day, the voices raise a ruckus. |
There is a gnawing in my mind. A restless muttering permeates my thoughts and steals my attempts to rest. The day has been harried and I need to relax, but my mind is whirring with voices. Some are insistent that I have other work to do. Others are ragging on me about how I handled myself at the meeting this morning. Piss pour they chant and my stomach clenches as still more voices add that that they will fire me for my incompetence. I fix myself KD for dinner and plunk down on the couch in the hopes of zoning out, but other voices add their staccato nagging that this is not a proper meal. I swear it sounds like my mother on one of her rampages. I pour a glass of bourbon and shoot it back. I want to drown out the cacophony, but still other voices drag themselves up from the basement of my mind. One calls for more booze, while the other whines about they waste of swigging back a perfectly good bit of alcohol. Another voice scratches at me calling me a drunk. "Enough" I scream throwing my head under a pile of cushions and sobbing. "There, there." sooths another voice. "That's enough now. Can't you see you are pushing her over the edge?" The voices dwindle as a distinct voice says, "Rest child. Don't listen to them. They just want to cause a ruckus." The voices stop. I slip into sleep dreaming of a Faery Angel who watches over me. I have a feeling I will be able to tackle things tomorrow with her presence making sure the other voices keep silent. I thank the goddess for her assistance. Word Count = 284. Notes ▼ |
