Wings of sorrow (Katherine's POV)

Katherine has to go to the Pristina kingdom undercover. What will happen?

Chapter 3


Katherine




I came barging through the door ready to confront my father.
'Father!' he didn't even let me finish before saying the words I had always feared.
'Katherine, you're going to Pristina, the dragons will be ready in an hour.' His excitement was visible on his face. I knew this day would come someday, I just didn't expect it to arrive so soon.
'Here's the plan, you will be going undercover as a new maid to the Prist's royal family. You will stay there until you gain their trust completely and then you'll steal the key to the Pristina's riches and steal them all, then we'll attack and we can finally have the Pristina's kingdom.'
I stare at him and nod. I know I can't deny this mission or I will be considered a traitor.
'Oh and one more thing, try to get close to the royal brothers: Jack and Daniel, especially Jack the heir.' I nod again processing the information, so I have to get close to the brothers and deceive them...
I really wish it wasn't me, but I prefer being the one doing it so Eleonora doesn't have to, she's too young for all of this.
I went to my room and started packing all my things for the journey awaiting me. I of course packed my favorite bow and sword just in case, and some clothes. I always wanted to go to Pristina, my mother always said it was a beautiful place full of roses and the sky was never dark like Shadow's skies. After she was murdered by the Prist's clan, Shadow's kingdom became a place black and white, my brother was the most affected by her death. Oh, talking about Drew I need to say goodbye.


I knocked on Drew's door, 'Come in' he said from inside.
I went inside, he was on his bed with some papers. 'Hey, whatcha doing?' I asked , 'None of your business.' He said dryly, well this just went off perfectly. 'Look , I'm busy, what do you want?' I also expected this so I decided to skip the greetings and go straight to the point. 'I just wanted to say goodbye.' He scoffed 'You saying goodbye hard to believe, where are you going anyway Kathy.' He's kinda right I don't usually say goodbye, well I think it's because I was never going to go so far away from Shadows. 'I'm going to Pristina, and I think for a long time.' He nodded. I suppose father probably mentioned something about this to Drew. 'Well Kathy i can't say i'm going to miss you because that would be lying and i don't lie, Goodbye Katherine.' I knew he wouldn't miss me but he could at least pretend he did. I got up and went downstairs, my sister was waiting for me to say her farewell. 'Hey sissy, i'm going to miss you.' She said before pulling me into a tight hug, tears were threatening to spill. 'I'm going to miss you too sis, remember I love you.' I gave her a quick peck on the cheek, and headed to the Dragon's Nest to go find my dragon.


My father was waiting there, Nessie in hand. She's a beautiful Black Death, the rarest dragon and fastest in all Shadow's.
He handed me the reins of the Nessie and just nodded.
I got on easily and pulled the reins to signal Nessie to go up. When Nessie arrived at a certain altitude, I steadied the dragon and layed on her back watching the gray sky begin to turn blue.
'You think Pristina is like Mother said huh Nessie?' Of course there was no answer, but I continued talking to make the time pass faster. 'Maybe the princes are really kind and not mean and rude like father says.' It's true father always said the Prist's are unworthy, liars, and manipulators. Well I can't say we are the opposite.
If they find out my identity before my mission is done they will probably kill me and if for some reason they don't i'm sure father or brother will do it happily for them...
Drew never really liked me. He always loved Eleonora more, I remember how he would brush her beautiful curls and wash her hair, while he never did that for me.




Fresh air made me go back to reality. I didn't notice the sky change from grayish to bright blue, I looked down, and dozens of beautiful flowers were looking straight at me. Suddenly I saw the most gorgeous castle I've ever seen in the w0rld. The bright colors were the complete opposite of the gothic shades of Shallows. I realized I had to land the dragon a little far away from view since as far as I know there are no dragons in Pristina. I pulled on the reins signaling Nessie to land. I patted Nessie before getting off, she took off the moment I got off.


I straightened my skirt before walking towards the village.
Several guards were standing on the outskirts of the village to make sure no one of Shadows entered, luckily I had a special letter written by the king and queen to let me pass.




'Stop right there young lady, what's your name?' A rough guard asked.
I made my best effort to put on a sweet face despite feeling a strong urge to punch him in the face.
'Katherine Clark, sir, i'm the new maid in the palace.' Of course I didn't use Doso, my real last name. That would be really pathetic. I showed him the letter and luckily he let me pass.
He opened the door for me in a princess-like carriage that went to the castle.
When I stepped out I couldn't stop myself from opening my mouth a little. I took a deep breath and composed myself before knocking on the door, my arms shaking.
Two boys opened the door for me and OMG! They look like Greek gods.
'Umm... Hello, I'm Katherine Clark, the new personal maid.' I made my best efforts not to blush because I could feel my face getting red. The dark haired boy talked to me first. 'Nice to meet you darling, I'm Daniel and this blondie here is Jack.' I just stood there staring like a four year old looking at candy. 'Well are you going to keep staring or are you going to enter.' I composed myself, getting red from their observation. -Right Katherine calm down, remember the mission- I told myself hoping it would help me calm down. The blonde guy named Jack excused himself to the kitchen leaving me alone with Daniel. 'Well love you look quite young, how old are you?' He was right. I was younger than the other maids I've seen around the castle until now. 'I'm 17 sir.' He nodded, by the looks of him he must be 18 or 19. 'So young...Well you're in luck sweetheart your room is in front of mine.' His words made me twist in rage, I had to resist the temptation of punching him. 'Lucky me.' I say sarcastically.
He opened the door of my room for me. When I saw the room I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped to the floor. The room was huge, but too bright for my opinion.'Wow, it's really... bright.' I said all the light from the sun made my eyes twitch from the bright room. 'Oh come on, it's not even that bright.' Well maybe if i lived in Pristina but in Shadows it's never sunny.
The only problem was the closet. In Shadows I have a closet full of black pieces and leather clothes. But here the closet is full of yellows, reds, pinks and greens. Not a single black piece.




'Well I'll let you be, see you later.' With that he leaved the room, leaving me time to think of the best way to rob them and gain their trust.
