A Drabble (exactly 100 words) about a tedious profession |
| The largest telescope in the world is the M6-B12, commonly called "Galax-enormous." And I have the job of keeping the lens clean. Much of the time it needs little maintenance, because the sliding cover remains closed. Most maintenance involves nothing more than a once-over with a large vacuum hose. But once a week I use a gallon of window cleaner and a ton of polishing rags, all to allow one or two scientists to sit there all night and strain their eyes, trying to see into infinity. It's not the best job in the world, but somebody's gotta do it. |
