It is Not Over Yet!

An update on my diminishing eyesight -- Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

I was diagnosed with AMD in 2006.

I haven't shared much about my eyes lately, but I feel the need to give an update today.

After seeing my doctor, I find myself at a crossroads. The possibility of no longer driving is approaching. The injections that once kept my AMD steady are no longer as effective. My vision has declined. I now face cataract surgery, along with early signs of glaucoma.

Cataract surgery can bring significant improvement, offering real hope. Glaucoma, however, carries the risk of permanent blindness.

I'm not complaining, just reflecting. Nearly twenty years ago, I was told I would be blind within six months. Yet here I am, still able to see. That is a blessing I don't take lightly.

The injections were challenging, but they were effective. My left eye is now dry, and my right eye has only a small amount of fluid and is being monitored. That, to me, is good news.

Today, my doctor told me, "It's not over yet. You will probably never go completely blind, and chances are good you won't lose much more of your sight."

I pray that he is right. My greatest hope is to continue seeing my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as all of you.

What a gift that would be. For that, I remain forever hopeful and grateful.

I know some of you are also walking with me on this journey with your eyes. Know this: it's not over yet. Hold on to hope, and remember to appreciate the beauty of everyday life while you can still see it!
