Two Hearts speaking

Two Hearts

Too warm.

She lays on her side beneath the patio cover
exposing her full abdomen to the shade.
As she rests I smell her musky odor
heavy on the hot summer air.
Laying also on that warmed slab
gently I stroke her belly till she responds.

We melt.

We look at one another's eyes meeting to combine
the heart of a man with the heart of a dog.
Two souls that some say cannot communicate.
But they are wrong,
those that say that man and beast must live in separate ways.
