Inner Works

Inner Works

We peddle our lives.
Like a hawker we shout out the benefits---
the emollients in the soap to soften
the razor-sharp blade that slices a tomato
paper-thin.

We peddle our wares without telling how
quickly the soap dissolves or how fast the
knife edge dulls. Instead we speak of fragrances
or catch a ray of light to reflect on the blade.
And although they fear the razor-edge,
they are captivated. They crave the fragrance
and the feel of pain.
