what 'love' is or seemed to be.

What is love?
A word that means something so big yet is
Thrown around as if it means something small.

Love.
What a word. No one can truly say they know what love is.
To some, it's just a feeling.
86% of Americans say they believe in true love, and 67% say they've felt it.
Yet our world still seems to be filled with hate.
Others see things in colors we never will.

True love
Some say you feel it inside your heart.
Some say it's a moment--something that arrives when you're with a certain person.
Others say true love isn't just for people; it can be for a place, or a thing, or a moment in time.

What some think love is
Person One says:
Love has multiple meanings and shows up in many ways. There's love for a person, an object, an animal, or simply for life itself. Love is diverse and can't be limited or reduced to one simple idea. It's complex.

Person Two says:
I see love in everything. I think love is different in every person--how we give it and how we receive it. I've loved this girl since 7th grade. I wanted to hate her, and for a second I thought I did. But I didn't hate her--I hated how deeply I felt. I was mad at myself. It made me realize you can't choose who you love. Love stays, even if it just lingers. Love is like finding a new song you replay or a food you love--you didn't choose it, it just happened.

Person Three says:
Love is when people ask me to do things with them--play a game, go for a walk, just spend time.

Person Four says:
Love is when their girlfriend just speaks.

This is what some say love is.
Love for the world
Love is needed in the world.
We as humans have so much love to give, yet we still hold so much hate.
We see wars, destruction, and hurt, and 9 out of 10 people say,
"That's not my problem."
The other 1%--those who try to help--are told they're "too sensitive," "too loud," or "bad for the kids."
That is not love.

Love for the world is its cultures, its communities, its green and open lands--the things we're lucky to see today.
That is love.
Love in music
Music speaks to the human soul.
Love songs are written for someone, or something, or a memory.
They are meant to touch us.
Many people say music has healed them, saved them, held them when nothing else could.

The things people love can be just as powerful as music.
That is love.
How I see love
I see love as something small yet big.
Love can kill and heal a person at the same time.
Love has driven people to do crazy things--wrong things--and when you're blinded by love you simply can't see it.
No matter how hard you try to push it down, that heavy feeling rises again.

Showing love can be just as silly as showing hate, but one is much prettier than the other.
I find love in small things--things you might overlook, but that feel huge to me.
That is my love.
So in the end
We still don't know what love truly is,
yet we've learned it can be shown in many ways.
It's not just a feeling--
it's a way of life, a kind of peace.
And one day, reader, you will find the answer to the question we ask:

What is love?
love,
