It’s only stubbornness that lets me keep my grip after I come back from staycation

Ah, fall staycation,
This year visiting couch land,
Until the burnout’s out.

Six weeks since I was swimming laps
Across the Atlantic
Five since I last was lifting weights
Like the whole world
Four since I ate chips in sweat pants
Like all the potatoes in Idaho
Three since I stopped being a gym rat
Bioengineered for lab tests
Two since a judgmental trainer called me,
“Get back here or!”
One since I came back to the club.

Chocolate gums up my belly
Gosh my feet are numb
It took how many years to get my body strong?!
Shush, shush, sheer stubbornness won’t slip
strength away
sans struggle.
