life is the only possible cure |
Having noted a dramatic increase in this condition (esp. on internet sites), it seems important to ensure that it is understood. High-Horse Syndrome is a condition in which the patient presents the following symptoms: - hostility and unreasoning anger inspired by paranoid defensiveness. - delusions of: adequacy, importance, and superior intelligence - behavior is characterized by: hateful personal attacks on anyone who even seems to disagree with them. - a limited world view based on their own small theater of existence. - self-righteousness leading to condescension and nasty behavior. This behavior is particularly pronounced when they are challenged or when they are unsure of what they are saying. While this condition is typically displayed by those of the liberal political persuasion (esp. self-righteousness and a lack of personal social responsibility), it is often demonstrated by extreme conservatives. As it has been stated elsewhere, if left and right are represented on a vertical circle as a continuum, then the extremes of both meet at the bottom in the middle. I will end this very brief description of this condition with a warning, as there is no known treatment. If you encounter individuals who have this problem, ignore them; if possible, avoid arguments with them - they love it, and it encourages further bad behavior. Just hold to your values, move away from them, and go on with your life. |
