Just needed to express my reaction to joining writing.com

I know that I'm just a newbie to this site, but I wanted to express my initial thoughts.

I have been writing for a while now. Like so many others, I had no idea what to do with it. I am and have always been useless at sales and marketing. I detest hype and misdirection (one of the main themes in my writing) so got nowhere.

The internet seemed a real way forward, but it is generally taken over by social media wannabes with nothing to offer other than aspirations. Reaching out for help just attracts ne'er do wells, marketing great offers that prove to provide little or nothing after payment.

My apologies to all out there in those categories, but it's time to wake up. Big changes are happening in our world. Get ready.

I finally created my own web site (frustratedscribbler.com) which gave me an opportunity to express myself and communicate with open minded people with a couple of brain cells, if they existed. There is no sign in, tracking or payment. The downside is that so much time is diverted into really tiresome coding and web management. Again, I have no interest in that.

Eventually I came upon writers.com. It came across as very professional and interesting, but I had little expectation following all of my previous experiences, so I started off by entering a poem which is meant to be amusing and serious at the same time, to test the water.

I am not into social media, and do not wish to be. I don't even use a mobile phone except as an emergency. For some really strange reason, my wife thinks that I'm inflexible. Not true! I just won't do it if I don't want to(?).

But joy! A couple have already read and responded to my first poem. So a couple of shoutouts:

K5Rakitan
My very first review. Thank you for that. I will reply and have already started to look at your portfolio. (My glasses steamed up by the time I had got halfway down the page).

Naomi
Another very nice lady, who is willing and very able to share her experiences and ideas with us.

Not from a review, but I noticed that his came up as another newbie and I felt an immediate kindred spirit (though I needed to look up what a quinquagenarian was)

And I bet there are thousands more of this calibre, from all over the world. Hang on - another has just come through from The Uplifting Essayist! (thanks for the kind comments). I know I won't be able to spend enough time to fully appreciate all there is on offer. But what a great resource! Thanks and well done, writers.com!

By the way, don't be too misled by the picture of me dressed as a pirate. It was created using a photograph of me some 15 years ago. Just picture that same face soaked in water overnight then hung out to dry in a cold wind and in desperate need of an iron. That would be me now. Unfortunately, not just my face...

Just to keep the kettle boiling over, my next article will be on the true facts of life. So hang on to your bloomers, ladies, and control yourselves, when you discover what it's like to be married to a real man.
