December 21st

On December 21st, snow may fall or not
or the sun may shine nice and warm
winter silence as a stillness wrought
like a calm before the storm

In the midst of holiday tidings
nature does just what it will
it does not have false bindings
that give humans such a thrill

Whether icy hills beckon
or balmy winds stir
the season calls to reckon
tales that still endure

You can put that elf on the shelf
and wait cheerfully for Santa
but nature is just itself
without the fancy banter

Some like to do rituals
to mark this sacred time
it can be deeply spiritual
to ring some Solstice chimes

It is a moment to reflect
about days gone past
and memories one did collect
that seem to last and last.
