Some nights ago, I climbed abed,
My sleeve clutched tight 'til light had fled,
Another night I slipped, and froze,
No comment, gaze nor query flowed,
So some nights hence I naked go,
Unmasked relief though worry so,
But not a peep of sight addressed,
Which in itself is mixed distress,
And now I let the question fade,
A dulling mark that's soon away,
The proof a chance that's gone unsaid,
Uneven absence in my bed.
