A Mother I Never Knew

Mother, Who Were You?

By ~ Reagana

Who is this woman, dressed in rags, and bereft of coat,

No watch on wrist or necklace to adorn her throat?

Her cart of meager belongings close at hand,

Too weak with hunger to even stand.

Her days a struggle just to live,

Asking, begging, for you to give.

Looking back, not a tear to shed,

For the lonely life she once led.

Her children born, and taken away,

She too young, to know the way.

A shadow in my memory,

Is all that I will ever see.

For this woman, I cannot blame,

Is my Mother, but only in name.
