Ronald has reservation about the trip, and his girlfriend.

To Grandfather's House We Go

Sarah somehow convinced Ronald to accompany her out to her grandfather's farm, a remote location in the Appalachians of Pennsylvania. Being a city boy from Philly, he had no desire to stray away from the conveniences he'd become used to. But when Sarah told him that her grandfather would take his phone away until their stay was over, it was almost too much to take. She said it was worth it, but how?

Saturday morning, they headed north on Interstate 476. Traffic flow remained steady as Sarah stopped short of divulging why the trip was worth it. Past excursions with Sarah had unpleasant outcomes. Ronald had a love-hate relationship with her wild streak.

Sarah turned down a dirt road, and both bounced about as rocks and gravel pinged the SUV's frame. Just over a rise sat a decent house with two buildings nearby. It didn't look as rural as he imagined and figured he may have a good time out here.

Sarah introduced Ronald to her well-spoken grandfather, but soon after, Ronald's phone was taken from him after he turned it off. They chatted, and Ronald enjoyed himself, until four o'clock hit.

They escorted her grandfather to the nearest building out back. It was a large shed with cameras all around. Her grandfather unlocked the door and everyone entered. To Ronald's left sat a large barrel sitting up right. Next to it was another, and another. To his right sat five alcohol stills all working. Her grandfather opened a flask on the counter and poured some liquid into a cup.

"Taste this," he said.

Ronald took a sip. The brandy was exquisite.

"We're gonna party with my grandpa," Sarah said with a toothy smile.

Sarah was right! The trip was worth it.
