The daunting feeling that opening up ur heart to loving someone after u already been hurt

The Edge of the Shore

The water is clear, a shimmering blue,

A promise of something vibrant and new.

I stand at the edge where the wet sand gives way,

Watching the light on the surface at play.

My heart is a fortress with windows barred tight,

Built in the shadows, away from the light.

For to let someone in is to lower the wall,

And I’m terrified now of the height of the fall.

It’s the weight of the "maybe," the sting of the "if,"

Standing alone on the edge of the cliff.

I want to dive deep, to feel and to know,

But the ghosts of the past tell me "better go slow."

What if I sink where I thought I would float?

What if I lose the safe hull of my boat?

The silence is heavy, the questions are loud,

Like thunder that hides in the heart of a cloud.

Yet even in fear, there’s a pull to the sea,

A hope that the salt and the waves set me free.

To find a soft hand in the midst of the deep,

And finally awaken from this guarded sleep.
